Ben & Jerry's Founding Partner Alleges Unilever Prevented Palestine-Themed Frozen Dessert Product

One of the original creators behind the famous frozen dessert company Ben and Jerry's has stated that parent company the multinational conglomerate prevented the launch for an innovative pro-Palestinian ice cream flavor.

The entrepreneur, that established the business alongside his partner, revealed how he plans to independently develop this new product as part of a personal series highlighting causes the company was prevented from speaking out about.

Ongoing Dispute Involving Creators versus Corporate Owner

The recent development intensifies the ongoing conflict among the world-famous dessert company and Unilever, the British packaged goods giant which has owned the ice cream brand for over two decades.

The co-founders maintain how Unilever and its ice cream arm the Magnum brand improperly prevented their company against "maintaining its activist principles".

Watermelon Flavor becoming a Symbol for Support

Mr. Cohen revealed via social media how he's developing an innovative watermelon-flavored sorbet, requesting public suggestions for the product's name plus additional components.

“I'm doing what they couldn't,” the founder commented in a cooking set. “I'm creating a watermelon-flavored ice cream that advocates for lasting ceasefire for Palestinians and calls for addressing the harm that was done there.”

The watermelon has emerged as an emblem of support for Palestinians because of its coloration, which closely resemble the colors in Palestine's national banner – red, green, black and white.

Historical Activism and Recent Changes

Several years ago, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of its products in areas under Israeli control, resulting in the parent company transferring the Israeli operation over to a local licensee, thus allowing continued sales in disputed territories.

The new product line is being created through Ben's Best, the activist dessert company which was first established several years back to support ex- political contender Senator Sanders with the flavor "Bernie's Return".

Leadership Changes plus Upcoming Plans

Mr. Cohen indicated how he will create other frozen dessert varieties focusing on concerns that the company was silenced from addressing publicly due to Unilever.

The announcement follows co-founder Mr. Greenfield resigned from the company recently, following many years with the organization, mentioning concerns regarding how the company's autonomy had been compromised following corporate moves to restrict their advocacy work.

Previously, Ben Cohen stated how "Jerry has strong compassion and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was breaking it."

“My conscience leads me to keep working inside the company to fight for its independence ensuring that it can actualise its ethical purpose, the values which established its foundation and has maintained for over 40 years," he explained to journalists.
