Meteorologists are reporting a chilly commencement to the new year, with snow anticipated throughout a lot of the UK. Revelers have been told to bundle up as bitterly cold temperatures are predicted for New Year's Eve.

Celebratory Events Continue In Spite of Warnings

The Scottish capital's renowned Hogmanay events are set to take place, unlike last year's calling-off. This proceeds amid weather alerts for snow over northern Scotland.

Moving into Friday, snow alerts are active for Northern Ireland and from Wales, through the north-west, the West Midlands and reaching London and the majority of the south-east of England.

Readings Forecast to Fall Further

About 10cm of snow is expected to have accumulated in some areas by Friday morning, potentially hitting 30cm on the top roads and uplands.
