Spurs Manager Thomas Frank Calls Vicario Critics 'Not True Genuine Fans'

Spurs supporters who booed keeper Vicario were told afterwards "those individuals can't be real Spurs fans" by manager Frank.

Tottenham conceded a pair of goals in the first six minutes to lose 2-1 to Fulham, registering their 10th Premier League at home loss of the year.

However the primary talking point was Fulham's second score when the keeper gave away the ball far beyond his box.

He ventured out to handle a long ball and carried the ball towards the touchline.

However, instead of booting it out of play, the Italian turned and attempted to clear, but lost his footing as the ball skimmed off Wilson and was collected by Josh King.

The forward passed the ball off to Welsh midfield player Harry Wilson, who bent a shot into the goal from the touchline recorded at 36.6 metres.

Seconds later when the ball went to Vicario again, some Tottenham supporters jeered him.

Spurs were booed off at half-time, with the side 2-0 down, and again at the final whistle.

One of those jeering episodes really angered the manager.

"It came to my attention a few of our supporters reportedly booed the situation and jeered after, which, in my view is completely unjustifiable," the Dane commented regarding the fans' response to his goalkeeper.

"Those individuals cannot be real Spurs supporters that do that. Fair enough jeering following the game, fine, but when we are in play, we are supporting each other, we are behind one another going forward."

Tete had given the visitors a fourth-minute lead before Wilson's goal – with Kudus scoring for Spurs in an improved second period performance.

Ex- top-flight keeper Joe Hart stated that the next goal was "completely avoidable".

"I do appreciate the supporters' disappointment," Hart continued. "I know the part Vicario is playing. He is a excellent squad member, he's a true leader in the dressing room but ultimately you are going to be assessed by your decisions.

"He was heavily involved in what ended up to be the decisive goal."

'It is Part of Football, I Can Handle It'

Italy national team the keeper is in his third campaign with Spurs.

The 29-year-old stated after the match that he had to accept the criticism.

"That score was a error of mine, I accept accountability for that," he said.

"My aim was to clear the ball long and I just hit the ball in a poor way. That made an even bigger mountain to overcome."

He said receiving jeers "is part of football".

"I am mature, what can I say?" he continued. "We cannot be influenced by the circumstances in the crowd. Supporters have the entitlement to do what they think.

"It is on the team to remain more calm, to concentrate on our own performance. We are missing in composure and poise to overturn outcomes. Today is a poor loss and it's hard to take."

'I Was Surprised Nobody Went Back to the Goal Line'

Despite the keeper's mistake, it was not an easy score for Wilson to score.

Actually it was the second most distant top division score of the season – after Adams' 43.3 yard goal for Bournemouth against Sunderland, which interestingly also occurred on the same day.

The goalscorer said he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an empty goal to target.

10 seconds elapsed between Vicario exiting of his box and the midfielder shooting – which was five moments after the clearance.

"I felt like the goalkeeper was away from the area for a long time," Wilson remarked.

"It amazed me not one of the back four returned to the line. When not one of them defended the goal, my eyes sparked a bit.

"[Destiny] Udogie slipped too, which allowed me a bit of extra opportunity. After that it was all about trying to achieve the correct connection and get it on target. I had a good feeling, as soon as it came off my foot, that it was on the right line."

'During in a Bad Spell, All Seems to Work Against You'

While Vicario's error led coverage, this was an all-round poor day for Tottenham to continue their home struggles.

The match was their 10th home defeat of 2025 in the league, a joint team record matching 1994 and 2003.

They still have home games against Frank's old side Brentford and champions the Reds to come prior to the close of the season.

Only one of those wins have occurred since Frank replaced Ange Postecoglou in the off-season.

"If you are behind 2-0 after the opening, there is a mountain to climb," stated Frank.

"When you're in a poor run, everything seems to go against you too – the first was a deflected attempt, the second is a error from Vic.

"The outcome puts us in a place where we have lost another game. Every game has a unique story, today we were defeated in the early stages.

"We just need to continue striving. The second half was significantly improved and hopefully something we can use to develop."

Spurs have been defeated in four straight at home London derbies for the first time in the top division.

Furthermore they are recording 9.5 shots and three point two efforts on goal per game in the division – their poorest rates on record in a one season (since at least 2003-04).
