The Dragon's Curse by Joseph Hillstrom King Review – An Fiery Supernatural Saga Is a Tour de Force

Six unlikely but doughty children confront the trail of a colossal and fearsome supernatural evil that has infiltrated our world from the farthest reaches of darkness. They must devote their lives fighting it, facing terror upon terror in the struggle.

A Resonant Plot with a Fresh Twist

This describes the premise, broadly speaking, of the master of horror’s novel It (his best; no arguments). It parallels of Stephen King’s offspring Joseph Hillstrom King’s new horror doorstopper, in which a close-knit group invoke the ancient, utterly malevolent serpent the Dragon King from the Abyssal Void to assist them in vanquishing some antagonists. As one might expect, their supernatural ritual goes awry.

Joseph Hillström King started his career striving diligently to remain separate from his famous father, adopting the nom de plume he still uses today and avoiding meeting his agent (he bears a strong similarity to his father). Meet the Central Figures

This ancient entity will undoubtedly remove those annoying regional antagonists, but they are required to pick a fresh offering each year or become his victim themselves. As our protagonist states: “You invoke terrible forces, all you get is more dragons.”

Narrative Dexterity and Imaginative Range

Moving through four decades, Hill also moves with natural fluency across narrative styles: as the friends strive to manage the circumstances they find themselves in by, variously, selecting clearly malevolent individuals to immolate, or searching for methods to destroy the entity themselves, we transition from suspense to dark fantasy, black-ops torture to romance to horror. A standout transition was to a heroic journey, far beneath the surface under the English county, a section sprinkled with the fantasy maestro that was magnificently horrifying.

A Rich Canvas of Horror and Courage

The novel features trolls – the classic variety and internet antagonists, truly terrifying and perfectly brought to life. We see enchanted blades and deceptions, breath-taking moments of courage and ones of terrible wickedness, both human and extraterrestrial. This is a remarkable achievement: a horror novel that is above all a paean to the creative spirit, and to devotion and companionship. “We needed a story to believe and {now we’ve got one|presently we possess it|currently we hold it,” says the wealthy student as the companions sit around the table, preparing to summon their serpent to life with the power of their thoughts.

As Hill puts it in his epigraph: “Hic sunt dracones”. Ensure you experience it.
