Zero McKenna Celtic Discussions as Craig Bellamy Commits to Wales

Each are being considered with the coaching position at the Premiership title holders following Brendan Rodgers' departure on Monday.

The Manager's Position on Celtic

The Ipswich boss described the Glasgow giants as "a really big football club" but stressed he is "in the middle" of a "extensive rebuilding" with the Championship side.

The mid-thirties assumed control of Portman Road in recent years and led them to the English top flight with back-to-back promotions, but they managed only a handful of victories last season as they were demoted back to the Championship and they currently sit 12th in the Championship.

"There have been such discussions," the English capital native former Irish young player said when questioned about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"It's not something I have given any thought to, or where any portion of my concentration is this week.

"I have a unique position here at a special club. And we're at a crucial phase of the campaign. Anything external hasn't reached my awareness."

Background and Agreement Aspects

Reports indicate that McKenna would be willing to talk to Celtic given his childhood support.

"During youth, we all have our affinities," he said when questioned about these. "It's unlikely all people has to publicly and announce what they were, but of course it's a massive sports organization."

McKenna agreed to a fresh four-year contract in last year and was asked about his alleged buyout clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are things," he replied. "I don't know what my specific terms are and, if I did, I wouldn't disclose you anyway!

"I tackle this role like I will remain Town's coach indefinitely. I understand that's not invariably going to be the case, but I'll always do my best as while I remain in position."

Bellamy's Position

Bellamy represented Celtic on temporary transfer from the Magpies in 2005, but the ex- Welsh forward is inclined to finish the ongoing World Cup qualification, a stance that would effectively rule out the mid-forties from assuming the Glasgow position.

The Welsh squad are currently third in their World Cup group behind group toppers the Red Devils and runners-up North Macedonia.

Victories over the minnows and North Macedonia in next month would secure their place in the final qualifying round, but they are all but guaranteed of making those, due to a successful Nations League campaign, even if they not finish as Group J second place.

Given his present position, the Wales manager, whose agreement expires after Euro 2028, would not be available until after the qualifying matches at the minimum.
